Mayor Kevin McDonnell is seeking re-election in November, according to a campaign kick-off event announced on Facebook on May 30.
His current term is set to end in December.
“Serving Petaluma as our Mayor has been my highest honor,” McDonnell wrote in the post. “Working in every corner of our great city, we have delivered on safer streets, increased paving, reducing homelessness, improved youth sports facilities and a sustainable city budget. While we’ve accomplished a lot together, I know there’s more to do, which is why I asking [sic] for your support for four more years.”
He will hold his kickoff at the Foundry Wharf lawn on June 9.
“The city is just in a better place each year and I’m anxious to see what good things we’re going to be able to accomplish together,” he told Petaluma Voice by phone Tuesday morning.
Voters first elected McDonnell to Petaluma City Council in 2018. He was then elected mayor in 2022 after the city transitioned to district elections where council members must live in and represent a specific area of the city – except for the mayor, who is elected at-large. Petaluma is divided into six districts and is represented by six city council members and one mayor.
McDonnell, a civil engineer by profession, also previously served as the chair of the Recreation, Music and Parks Commission.
