Scene & Herd: Mayoral forum at Petaluma High
On Tuesday night, Oct. 20, the Petaluma High School Speech and Debate Club hosted the three candidates vying for Petaluma mayor in a forum at the school. Mayor Kevin McDonnell, John Hanania, and Shelina Moreda answered questions from students for the first half of the program, then took questions from the audience of about 140 people that filled the multipurpose room.
Questions ranged from "What is one thing you would say to the youth of Petaluma to inspire them?" to "How do you plan to improve conditions for Petaluma's homeless population?" Candidates had two minutes to respond, and alternated who spoke first.
Teacher Jennifer Lounibos, an advisor for the club, praised the students' hard work in putting together the event. "(The candidates) were very cordial and sometimes humorous with each other," she added. "It was a good community event!"
