After winning at a regional high school theater awards show, Casa Grande High School graduate Samara Castro was one of more than 100 students from across the country to perform on Broadway last week.

In early May, she placed as one of two finalists at the Sara Barreilles Awards in San Francisco, which secured her a spot among 116 students to perform at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Jimmy Awards.

Her experience on Broadway alongside some of the most talented theater students in the country culminated with a show at Minskoff Theatre in New York City on June 22. Many past participants in the national finals have gone on to establish careers in theater.

During the production, she was one of 40 students selected to perform in one of the five medley groups, said her mother, Jodi Castro.
