In a word, many of you have asked for more: more news, more investigations, more features, more Petaluma characters. Someone even suggested we clone ourselves in order to expand coverage. Working on it!

It's back-to-school week for local students, with most Petaluma schools starting back up today. Check out our photos from the first day at Cinnabar Elementary and Charter School, of the single-school Cinnabar School District serving rural northwest Petaluma.

Buying supplies for the new school year isn't always easy. That's why some some local nonprofits go out of their way to make sure families and students have all they need.

This week's 5Qs features a conversation with Maureen Highland, executive director of the Petaluma Educational Foundation – a nonprofit that supports education opportunities for more than 12,000 students annually across 35 public, private, and charter schools in town.

In case you missed it: Schools

We've been covering local schools since day one. In fact, even before our official launch we ran a story about budget cuts within Petaluma City Schools and the potential closure of San Antonio High School.

We were there when the PCS Board unanimously passed a resolution to let Pride flags fly on school campuses all year long, and we documented the last day of Valley Vista Public Waldorf's first year. More recently, we introduced you to the school district's new superintendent, Davina Goldwasser.
