A huge thanks to all our subscribers, members, and donors – including those who invested in our future before we'd published a thing; those who subscribed or contributed during the two months between our first story and our first issue; and those who joined after our official launch last week.
Petaluma Voice gained 124 subscribers over the last seven days. Thirty-two of these – more than 25% – are paying members supporting our mission, all while earning commenting rights and other perks.
Staffed by local journalists, Voice is Petaluma's very own independent, nonprofit newsroom. If you missed them last week, read a personal note from co-founder Crissy Pascual and a news story about our launch.
In recognition of Earth Day, our top story this week reports on a newly released vision for restoring Petaluma's most popular open space, Shollenberger Park, as well as the city-owned wetlands to its north and south.

And our weekly 5Qs item features a chat with Dawna Mirante, co-owner of downtown Petaluma shop Refill Mercantile.
To mark the occasion, we also debut our new local nature and outdoors column, "Get Out!," with a piece by editor Nate Seltenrich about all that's blooming right now at Helen Putnam Regional Park.
Want something else to celebrate? How about the 100th birthday of Petaluma's Sonoma County National Bank building (formerly the Seed Bank, currently Hall of the Above) from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. To get you in the mood...

Our new issue includes a poignant yet ultimately hopeful story from reporter Jennifer Sawhney about Wally's Snack Shack at Penngrove Elementary School. You're invited to the ribbon cutting on Sunday, April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.
We also report on the closure of a beloved thrift store in town, Sacks Hospice Thrift Shoppe, which will shutter after 39 years of operation.
In our weekly Scene & Herd feature, Butter and Egg Days parade first-place performance group Paquiyollotzin Ballet Folklórico of Petaluma dances down Kentucky Street in a reader-submitted photo.
Finally, this week marks the launch of our spiffy new local event calendar. Though already jam-packed, the calendar is a work in progress as we continue to add more venues and events. If you notice that anything is missing or incorrect, please email us at news@petalumavoice.org.
