Love: June 24, 2026

It's the last week of June, and summer is officially here. That means more activities than we can keep up with, plenty of memories waiting to be made, and – of course – more high-quality, hyperlocal reporting from your Petaluma Voice team.

As always, we appreciate you reading and sharing our stories. If you'd like to comment on them, too, while supporting our mission of bringing paywall-free journalism to the community where we live, work, and play, considering becoming a paid member.

This Week's Stories

The Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury released a report last month accusing Petaluma city leaders of failing to adequately oversee previous animal shelter contractor North Bay Animal Services. We've got the full story.

In other news ... there's love of country, love of sport, and love of team and player bundled up in the World Cup tournament happening now at venues across the country. Fans of opposing teams recently came together at a Petaluma watering hole.

Speaking of sport, Jodi Clark loves pickleball – and is eager to share her passion for the game and the community around it.

Some people even love pulling weeds when it's for a good cause. Read all about the Petaluma Wetlands Alliance "weed team" in Get Out!, our monthly nature and outdoors column.

"Love" is in the name of Amor Para Todos, a Petaluma nonprofit that since 2019 has been promoting inclusion across town through a variety of innovative programs. In recognition of Pride Month, we speak with founder Renee Ho.

Finally, love goes out to the family of John Volpi, who died on June 11 at the age of 90. His longtime friend Harry Lewis shares memories of the beloved Petaluman who, along with his wife Mary Lee, created the legacy that is Volpi's Ristorante & Bar.

In Case You Missed It: Council Coverage

They aren't always the flashiest, but they're critically important to daily life in Petaluma – and often overlooked. City council meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month, where our elected representatives vote on measures big and small, city staff present valuable information, commissions and committees weigh in on pressing matters, and members of the general public provide formal comment on issues that matter to them.

Here at Petaluma Voice, we monitor published agendas for all city council meetings, and we often report on what transpires. Here are some of our recent articles covering council actions and reports:
